for Students with Disabilities

91会所, through policy and practice, is committed to providing equitable access to learning opportunities for all students. In the Catholic, Franciscan tradition, we celebrate the dignity of each individual to ensure all students, including those with disabilities, have equal access and opportunities during their time at 91会所.

The Personalized Learning Center staff, along with students and faculty, engage in an interactive process to ensure accommodations are set up in a reasonable and supportive manner. This may also include connecting students to other campus resources, such as peer tutoring, academic success coaching, and career exploration services.

Applying for Accommodations

At 91会所, we are committed to supporting students with all different types of disabilities and diagnoses including, but not limited to, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), learning disabilities, physical and sensory disabilities, medical and mental health conditions, autism, as well as temporary disabilities. More than 200 students engaged with the Personalized Learning Center in the 2021-2022 school year. 

Step 1: Complete the online

Completing this  provides the Personalized Learning Center staff with information about the types of support you may have received previously, what you are requesting at 91会所, what potential barriers may impact your experience, as well as information about you and your diagnosis. Only requests made in writing through our Accommodation Request process will be considered. Requests generated to other campus partners do not qualify a student for accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

Please note, students are required to complete the Accommodation Request Form. We are unable to consider accommodations that are not submitted by the student. 

Step 2: Submit Documentation

The Personalized Learning Center recognizes and supports different types of documentation, including student’s personal narratives, high school records regarding accommodations, and information directly from a healthcare provider. Documentation can be dropped off in person, sent through the mail service, or emailed to PLC@marian.edu. There may be times in which documentation submitted does not provide the Personalized Learning Center with enough information to be able to approve a requested accommodations. This may result in the PLC requesting additional documentation information from your health care provider. 

Step 3: Schedule Meeting

Once your Accommodation Request Form and documentation have been received, a staff member from the Personalized Learning Center will reach out to set up a time to meet with you to discuss possible accommodations, engage with your faculty, and also ensure you are connected to other appropriate campus resources. These meetings typically occur during the first few weeks of the semester but can happen at any time throughout the semester. 

Communication from the Personalized Learning Center will be sent directly to a student's 91会所 email address.

Accommodations

The Personalized Learning Center staff will work with you to ensure your accommodations are provided. Potential accommodations include, but are not limited to:

  • Extending test time
  • Preferential seating
  • Note takers
  • Readers for test questions
  • Scribes for tests
  • Reduced distraction testing environment
  • Adaptive technology (magnifier, screed readers, speech to text software)
  • Enlarged print on notes or exams
  • Use of computer/assistive technology for taking test

Note: Some auxiliary aids and services may be provided through other organizations when possible and appropriate.
