Why Study Exercise Science?
Exercise Science is the study of anatomy, physiology, and the mechanics of human body movement. Earning a degree in this field enables you to assist people to be more active, move and navigate through activities better, and live healthier lives through exercise, rehabilitation, and nutrition. In exercise science, you will build knowledge in physiology, chemistry, and psychology. But you will also gain skills in first aid, performance improvement, coaching, wellness promotion and safety.
Exercise Science can be used to launch a career in athletic training, personal training, group exercise instructor, coaching, strength and conditioning specialist, physical education teacher, recreation director, and sports management. Your degree can prepare you as an occupational therapy assistant, as a physical therapy assistant, or for transfer to bachelor's programs in related fields in nearby universities.
The primary goals of the Exercise Science program are to demonstrate an understanding of general principles of exercise science concepts, the ability to apply basic nutrition and weight management, and an understanding of safety, injury prevention and emergency procedures.
There are also many bachelor programs available such as Personal Training, Physical Therapy Assistant, and Athletic Training that the Associate’s Degree coursework in Exercise Science prepares you for.
