Become a Fortune Scholar – Shape the Future with Purpose and Vision 

Are you passionate about making a lasting impact? Do you want to become a leader who understands the power of free enterprise, civic engagement, and sustainable growth? The  Fortune Scholars Program at 91»áËù, part of the Penny and Jock Fortune Institute for Civic Leadership and Capitalism, is designed to help you become a changemaker in your community and beyond. 

Our Mission 

The Fortune Scholars Program empowers young leaders like you to develop the skills and knowledge needed to build a thriving society. Through civic engagement, hands-on leadership, and entrepreneurial opportunities, you’ll gain the tools to create meaningful change. 

Application Requirements – How to become a Fortune Scholar 

1. Admission to 91»áËù: Be admitted by November 15 of your senior year in high school.
2. Submit Your Essay: Apply to the Fortune Scholars Program with an essay by January 1, 2025, sharing your passion for leadership and your goals for making an impact. 

Once admitted, you’ll dive into a curriculum focused on moral capitalism, adaptive leadership, and business ethics. You’ll also complete the Civic Leadership and Capitalism Minor*, participate in learning communities, and gain practical training through internships and project-based experiences with government, nonprofit, and community organizations. 

*Minor pending approval from the Academic Policies Committee. 

What You’ll Develop as a Fortune Scholar 

• Civic Engagement: Participate in forums and community debates on economic issues that matter. You’ll learn how to foster democratic participation, encourage open dialogue, and become a voice for positive change. 

• Practical Leadership: Gain real-world experience through internships and community projects. Partner with local organizations, driving initiatives that make a lasting impact. 

• Entrepreneurship Opportunities: Got a big idea? Our incubator program gives you the chance to launch your own business! You’ll receive mentorship, resources, and even funding to bring your vision to life. 

The Fortune Scholars Experience 

As a Fortune Scholar, you won’t just learn—you’ll lead. Here’s what to expect: 

• Complete the Civic Leadership and Capitalism Minor*: Build a strong foundation in civic leadership with courses that challenge you to think critically and act ethically. 
• Join a Learning Community: Connect with peers who share your drive to lead and make a difference. Together, you’ll discuss ideas, collaborate on projects, and grow as leaders. 
• Capstone Experiences and Senior Thesis: All Fortune Scholars will complete a capstone project, culminating in a senior thesis based on your fieldwork. This is your chance to dive deep into a topic that inspires you and share your insights with the world.
