Physical Education Minor

A minor in physical education will provide you with opportunities to learn about sports management and administration, motor skills, sports careers, physical fitness testing, and differentiation in physical education settings, among others.

If you are interested in physical education, you'll learn about the positive impact that physical activity makes on overall fitness, health, wellness, intellectual development, and emotional balance in humans. As a student in this program, you will:

  • Learn about the human body, nutrition, current topics in health and wellness, first aid, and related subjects.
  • Explore ways to help diverse individuals (including children, teens, and adults) understand how to move and improve their physical skills in areas like speed, agility, balance, strength, and endurance.
  • Study the benefits of running, swimming, throwing, jumping, and moving as both individual and group activities grounded in concepts of lifelong fitness, the spirit of competition, and teamwork.

What will you study?

As a physical education minor at 91会所, you will complete 19 credits including:

  • ESS 128, 228, 363, 420, 420, and 453
  • Any three of these courses: ESS 151, 152, 153, 154, or 155

Among the topics and subjects you'll study are:

  • Physical education and sport
  • Movement and rhythmic activities
  • Adapted physical education
  • Organization and administration
  • Physical tests and measurements
  • Exercise science essentials for health and physical education
  • Instructional methods in tennis, golf, basketball, volleyball, football, soccer
  • Instructional methods in lifetime fitness, strength, and conditioning

Available Career Paths

Many students who minor in physical education want to pursue careers as K-12 sports coaches, athletic administrators, activity coordinators in health centers, community recreation directors, camp directors for youth development agencies, and activity managers for parks and recreational programs.
