  • Register to Vote on or before October 7th for the General Election
  • The Indiana Voter Portal allows you to .
  • Request an Absentee Ballot by Thursday, October 24th (12 days before the election)
    • Keep your registration address ‘as is’ unless you need to update it (likely this is your home address). Enter your Marian address to have your ballot mailed to you on campus: 3200 Cold Spring Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222
    • College students can select the 'first reason' as the justification for their ballot: "You have a specific, reasonable expectation that you will be absent from the county on Election Day during the entire 12 hours that the polls are open (6 am until 6 pm)”
    • Watch for your ballot to arrive. You will receive an envelope with a postmark to send your ballot back
    • What can I do if I forget to send my absentee ballot? You can still take your absentee ballot with you to vote early or even on election day.
  • Early Voting:
    • Begins October 8th (28 days before the election) and ends November 4th
    • You can find out your voting locations from the Indiana Voter Portal
    • What if I requested an absentee ballot, but I want to vote early instead? That’s okay! Just make sure to keep your absentee ballot, take it with you to your voting location, and present your absentee ballot

You will need to allow time for your registration to be processed before requesting an absentee ballot

  • For Indianapolis (Marion County) residents, you can vote early at the Indianapolis City-Council Building. Between October 26th to November 3rd you can vote at any of the following additional locations:
    • Decatur Township Government Center
    • Franklin Township Government Center
    • International Marketplace Coalition
    • MSD Lawrence Education & Community Center
    • Perry Township Government Center
    • Luke’s United Methodist Church
    • Thatcher Park Community Center
    • Warren Township Government Center
  • On election day, Indianapolis (Marion County) residents can cast their ballot at any Vote Center in Marion County ()

  • Depending on your County, you may have a designated voting location OR a choice of various locations where you can vote.
  • Go to the Indiana Voter Portal and select the tab for ‘Voting Location’
  • On the left you will see a box for ‘Election Day Voting Location and Hours’
    • There may be several locations listed. If so, you can vote at any of these locations. Pick one that is most convenient for you!
    • If there is only one location, this is the Vote Center where you will need to cast your ballot.

  • Consider where you want to vote. Are their local issues or parties that are more important to you in the town or city where you go to school? Or, are the issues and/or candidates more important to you in your hometown?
  • You must reside in Indiana for at least 30 days (If you arrived on campus for the first time in August, you meet this requirement)
  • Use the street address of the building where you live, either on or off campus. Include your dormitory and room number. You cannot use a P.O. Box
  • If you are already registered to vote in your hometown, make sure to update your voter registration with your college address

  • Make sure to take a valid government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license, Indiana photo ID card, Military ID, or Passport
  • You cannot use your Marian ID. A student ID from an Indiana State school may only be used if it meets specified criteria. A student ID from a private institution may not be used for voting purposes
  • Exemptions do exist for religious objections to being photographed and a few other instances. Refer to for exemptions
