Internship opportunities for psychology students are available during the fall, spring, and summer sessions. Internships are designed to provide hands-on experience in a career field of interest. Students also participate in professional development activities, carry out professional responsibilities, and engage in academic and personal self-reflection.
Internship placements are very diverse and depend on the interests and career goals of each student. Students have completed internships in areas such as school counseling, addictions, grief support, domestic violence, disabilities, social work, marketing research, human resources, occupational therapy, physical therapy, law, medicine, and animal behavior.
Independent research projects are available to enhance a student’s research skills. Junior or senior psychology students work one-on-one with a faculty mentor to develop and complete an original project which may be presented at a regional research conference and/or published. Independent research is recommended for students intending to apply to graduate programs and is essential preparation for doctoral-level graduate programs in psychology.
