Reduced Course Loads

Students are required to take at least 12 credits as undergraduates or 9 credits as graduate students. However, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recognizes that students may face circumstances in which it is either required or beneficial to take less than the required course load.

Academic Difficulties

Students are able to be under enrolled due to initial academic challenges, such as English language skills, transitioning to the U.S. classroom, and difficulties in balancing the amount of reading requirements. This approval for reduced course load can only be used one time per degree level and typically happens in the student's first year of college while they are transitioning to a new country. Please see the Reduced Course Load Request for 91会所 for additional information.

Last Term

Students are able to be under enrolled in their last term if there are not enough classes left in their program of study to be full-time. Please see the Reduced Course Load Request for Last Term for additional information.

Medical Reasons

Students who are unable to attend school due to medical reasons must have written permission from a licensed psychologist or medical doctor. Please contact with the Office of International Programs if you are facing a medical issue and are unable to attend class.

Things to Consider Before Dropping a Class

  • What are the deadlines to dropping classes either for tuition refund or a "W" withdrawal grade?
  • If I drop the class after the tuition refund deadline, will my scholarship require me to pay for the class?
  • Is this class required for my degree? If so, when is this class offered again?
  • Do I expect to need a reduced course load request again?

Please meet with us to discuss these important matters before dropping a class.
