The Manufacturing Leadership, Education, and Development (LEAD) Program is designed to enhance leadership and management skills within the manufacturing industry. This eight-week course focuses on communication, leadership, and conflict resolution, providing participants with essential humanistic abilities to effectively guide their teams and address challenges. The program includes hands-on learning, reflection, and discussion-based activities, utilizing case studies and real-world applications. Participants will engage in activities such as Real Colors personality assessments to better understand decision-making processes and improve empathy and teamwork. The course is taught by experienced faculty and leadership staff, ensuring a rich and impactful learning experience.

Details

  • Duration: 8 weeks, 1.5 hours per week (lunchtime sessions with lunch provided).
  • Capacity: 8–10 participants.
  • Cost: $300 per employee (includes supplies, meals, and program materials).

Requirements

  • Host Space: Provide a conference room and allocate employees’ time.
  • Pre-Post Test: Assess confidence in skill development.

Course Content Overview

  • Discuss the differences between leadership and management.
  • Reflect on current roles, confidence in leadership, and areas of challenge.
  • Participate in Real Colors activities to understand decision-making processes and reactions, enhancing empathy and teamwork.

  • Identify characteristics of effective and ineffective teams.
  • Explore methods to redirect, motivate, and empower teams.
  • Understand the balance between providing direction and empowering team members.
  • Learn to leverage team members' core values and strengths.
  • Foster the relationship between Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Engagement Indicators (KEIs).

  • Emphasize the importance of clear communication ("Clear is kind; Unclear is unkind" - Dr. Brene Brown).
  • Discuss types of communication and processes to build transparency and trust.
  • Explore how communication can improve collaboration.
  • Learn to provide clear feedback: Appreciation, Coaching, and Evaluation.
  • Develop vulnerability trust and express empathy (Cognitive, Emotional, and Empathic Concern).

  • Engage in de-escalation techniques and resolve conflicts.
  • Walk through actions, words, and reflection to bring teams together.
  • Establish space for dialogue and build a conflict resolution process.

  • Continue discussions on conflict resolution.
  • Work through scenarios and action steps for conflict resolution.

  • Align department and personal goals with the company's mission/vision/values.
  • Understand individual contributions to the mission.
  • Learn to set goals and actionable steps for achievement and assessment.
  • Implement SMART goals for effective measurement.

  • Define collaboration within the company and across departments.
  • Discuss the importance of collaboration and its impact on company culture.
  • Learn the four rules of engagement to enhance performance and satisfaction: connection, collaboration, adaptability, and equivalence.

  • Conduct final reflections, projects, or presentations.
  • Invite leadership to engage with the course participants and learn from their experiences.
