Elizabeth Delery, Ph.D., is an assistant professor of microbiology and immunology at 91会所’s School of Osteopathic Medicine. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology with a pre-med concentration from Randolph College (Lynchburg, VA). Dr. Delery continued her education at Tulane University School of Medicine (New Orleans, LA), earning her Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences with a concentration in microbiology and immunology. She completed her dissertation entitled, “Choroid Plexus in AIDS Pathogenesis” in 2019 under the mentorship of Dr. Andrew MacLean at Tulane National Primate Research Center. She was selected for a T32 postdoctoral fellowship at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (New Orleans, LA) under the guidance of Drs. Scott Edwards and Patricia Molina, where she examined a variety of projects, including vasopressin signaling in alcohol-use disorder, neuroinflammation in traumatic brain injuries, and co-morbidities associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection that led to more serious clinical outcomes.
In her free time, Dr. Delery enjoys science communication and sharing her love of science with anyone who will listen. As a former rugby player for Tulane, she is excited to be able to attend Marian's undergraduate rugby games and check out all the cool hiking/outdoor activities Indianapolis has to offer!
Dr. Delery’s primary research area is neuroimmunology, specifically how the blood-CSF barrier responds to various immunological challenges. The Delery lab’s goal is identifying and elucidating the molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways leading to neuroinflammaging, with particular emphasis on the blood-CSF barrier, the choroid plexus. Our lab studies traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and other causes of neuroinflammation (like aging & HIV infection) in-vitro using cell culture and ex-vivo using Rhesus macaque tissue samples. Students in this lab will learn aseptic technique, cell culture, model TBIs in-vitro, perform immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, western blots, ELISAs and PCRs.
